Frequently Asked Questions

Find below some of the most frequently asked questions we hear about Liposuction Surgery Procedures, from our customers in Perth.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction removes unwanted stubborn fat in almost any part of the body. It can be performed as a day operation, meaning that you can return to work the next day. The procedure is performed over several hours and following the procedure, we encourage our patients to remain active. This includes walking on the same day or soon after and often returning to work the next day.

Who is an ideal candidate?

Liposuction can help anyone and everyone. However, the most common candidates we see are men and women who have accumulated unwanted fat which does not improve with rigorous gym workouts and exercise regimes.

These areas include:

  • Upper or Lower Abdomen
  • Flanks or Love Handles
  • Chin
  • Arms
  • Thighs
  • Back
Will I have a scar?

Liposuction involves the use of a very small cannula to remove the fat. A 2mm incision is used in this procedure, which can often be concealed within the natural creases of the body. The incisions are so small that we do not need a stitch to close them. They heal as a fine skin-coloured line approximately 2mm in length. It is unlikely that anybody will guess from these healed incisions that you have undergone liposculpture unless you inform them.

Do I need to wear a compression garment?

We recommend wearing a compression garment after surgery for 6 weeks. After this period, you may switch to wearing a SPANX type garment which is to be worn for a further 6 weeks. The more compliant you are with wearing the compression garment, the better your results will be.

How much does it cost?

Liposuction costs are set at $3,500 for the first area and $1,750 for each additional area. This does not include the cost of the compression garment or hospital fees.  If you choose to go ahead with the procedure, this fee will be deducted from the cost of your treatment. All follow-up consultations are free of charge.

On the day of Surgery

All surgeries are conducted as a day procedure. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by the nursing and admin team. Following your check in, your Surgeon will undertake the final consultation along with pre-operative marking.

All surgeries are conducted in sterile conditions to minimise the risk of infection. Smoking, alcohol consumption and illicit drug use must be avoided after the procedure as per the patient information document.

What is better liposuction or tummy tuck?

It isn’t really a case of which is better. Both liposuction and tummy tucks may be suited to different people depending on their individual needs. Liposuction is designed to remove excess fat in order to maintain a more healthy and aesthetically pleasing weight. Tummy tucks are a more invasive procedure, aiming to remove and tighten the skin around the abdominal region. Contact our friendly team to discuss further which may be suitable for you.

How painful is liposuction surgery?

Liposuction should be painless during the procedure. This is because you will receive local anaesthetic to numb the area. During your recovery period, you may experience some pain and discomfort for a few weeks whilst your body recovers. Your doctor or surgeon may offer you some painkillers to assist you.

How long does liposuction surgery take?

Your liposuction surgery should take roughly 1-2 hours depending on the treated area. Typically, you can go home on the same day as your surgery.

Does fat come back after lipo?

The fat cells that have been removed from your treated area will not grow back; however, this may see other areas of your body increase in size due to the lack of fat cells in the stomach region. Your surgeon may be able to give you advice on healthy ways to keep your weight gain under control before and after surgery.

What can you not do after liposuction?

After liposuction surgery, you should avoid any form of strenuous activity for at least 2 weeks. You can enjoy your daily routine as usual after your procedure and partake in light exercise; however, please ensure that you do not lift anything heavy at least for 2 weeks after the procedure.

Additionally, it is always important to follow your surgeon’s advice when it comes to liposuction recovery.

What is the best surgery for belly fat?

Many consider liposuction as the best surgery for belly fat. It is also capable of removing stubborn fat from your legs, back, face, neck and arms.
